I'm due for a new tranny as my nv3500 is on its last leg. I'm needing an overdrive tranny (5 or 6 speed) I know the best rout would be a t56 but at ~$1500+core and shipping and all the other goodies its way out of budget at the moment.
What are some other good options for 95 2wd.
If there were better rebuilds for the nv3500, I would go that rout. but I don't want to be in the same boat after the 4.8 turbo coming this spring :D(and putting the turbo on the back burner ain't gonna happen). So with the swap in mind, what would be good platform to start with? Thanks guys

I don't believe the 4500 would work to well for spirited driving, given its super low 1's gear and I bet it shifts slower than the 3500 being a heavy duty trans.
It would hold up to the power, but I bet shifting would be like rowing a 20ft boat
On a side note, have you seen the 4.8 TT setup? 1203 HP at the crank.
Lots of single turbo, custom cam, 80+lb injectors, lq9 head gaskets(Iircc), ARP rod bolts and head studs , good fuel system, good tune, 20# boost, 700hp+ to the wheels.

A 4 speed might work as long as I can keep a cruise rpm of 2500 or less a 70

The NV4500 is slow a heck to shift but 95 and newer have a better shift fork set up that 92-94 making them a lot smoother w/ closer pattern. 96 and newer has a closer gear ratio w/ higher 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears compared to an early NV4500. If you had 3.08 gearing I would say the early NV4500 w/ late model top cover/shift forks but w/ a semi low/average gear ratio the late model one will give you plenty of bottom end take off power.

There's an early version & a later version of the 4500. Where the break is, I don't know. Early = granny gear. The latter has a more street friendly 1st ratio. No aftermarket, short throw shifter though.
3500's can take a fair amount of abuse, depending on how you drive, but a pressurized V8 is probably at, or just past it's limit.

I still see horror stories of the 4500 popping under high rpm "quick" <(lol) shifts. iv done hrs of searching on this subject, I'm just hoping I missed an alternative option that some one could point out....
What a out the 93-97 t56 out of an f body? Will that bolt up to the tbi350 and then to the 4.8?
