I'm having trouble with the hood release on my hood. It doesn't always let the hood pop open when the handle is pulled. Some times I have to tap the edge of the hood with my palm to make it pop up. Does the latch need to be lubricated, if so what should I use to lubricate it?

Thanks

We use a light spray grease on customer's cars at work. [Wellworth My-T Lube] But if you use too much, road grime sticks to it and you have the same issue. I usually spray brake clean on it first to wash off the old grease and grime, then spray a little on the latch mechanism.

99% of the time you need to adjust the latch alignment if it doesn't just "pop" on the springs.

Or join the "hood whackers" club.

The other 1% is usually a worn component.

Happens after 25 odd years of use and vibration.....

what this guy said. we have 4 GMT400's at our place and everyone of them has had to have an adjustment after we got tired of whacking hoods.

Yeah I'm tired of, "whacking it" how would I go about adjusting it if that is infact the problem?

How big of a deal is it to replace the latch?

Guess I'm gonna try some spray lubricant first and see what that yeilds.

its not the latch, you have to adjust the spring or something like that. haven't looked at it in a while, but you just have to lube it and adjust some stuff most of the time

Whenever mine acts i use up a whole lot of pb blaster. Then the white lighting grease and it worked all summer until the salt started this year.
