I road race with a stock oil pump and stock oil pan in my LT1 Camaro. OP is not gonna be road racing, so wasted money. I'd do Vortec heads and a stock crank all day. I have 3 spare Vortec heads in the garage and I'm pretty sure I got them all for free. They're old and cheap and easy to spot where they usually crack between the valves. I'd be out what, $30 to have them checked? Bang for the buck they'll CRUSH the old swirl ports. Past 1000 RPM they won't make more torque than a Vortec head, but it's your money and it's clear your mind is made up.

TBI heads will be ahead until somewhere in the mid 4,000 rpm range.

Starting to think asking for other people’s opinions/advice especially here was a waste of time

Why? Because we don't all agree with you? Fast I'm not convinced that the TBI heads would win the race to 4000. My 88 C1500 with 5.7/700R4 3.73 gears and 29" tall tires never held OD as strongly as my 98 in my signature does with heavier 33s and 4.10 gears and I'm talking stock cam, header back exhaust (which I stole from my 88), stock intake manifold, 4L60E, and a 411 swap only on the 98. OP I don't think you're giving the teeny tiny stock TBI cam enough credit for the off the line punch, it's wicked small.

Duration wise the TBI cam is bigger than the Vortec and wider LSA. I think you are failing to give that tiny vortec cam credit for the torque.

700r4s never held OD well unless they had the Corvette/Police or aftermarket TV valve plunger and sleeve in them.

With bolt ons my stock 180 hp 350 TBI long block made as much torque at peak as the 395' cammed L31 and it made its torque lower in the RPM range. Both made over 300 rwtq. 395' cam made its peak at 3,400 rpm. TBI cam and heads with 1.6 rockers made its peak at 3,000.

So I just compared both runs. The TBI had 204 rwhp @ 3,800 rpm. The Vortec hit 210 hp @ 4,000. Stock TBI cam and heads on a 8.75:1 compression 350. The Vortec with 2.02/1.60s, the 395' cam and 1.6 rockers at 9.6:1 made 210 hp @ 4,000. Given the same abysmal compression ratio and flat tappet TBI cam it would take longer for the Vortec heads to pull ahead.

interesting to see real numbers. Nice to see they’re that close but at higher compression ratios.

I thought the TBI cam had 179* intake side. I measured my friend's and, with a 1.5 rocker, his lift came out around .380".

The one I degreed straight in the GM crate 350 was 194/203. 0.390/0.410 lift. 179 intake, 194 exhaust, and .380 lift would be a 305 cam.

GM'S own info seems wrong. The 350 Goodwrench engine has it's camshaft listed as 194/202 @.050 and .383 / .401 . The 350 TBI cam is 165/179 @ .050 and .382/.402. The infamous 305 peanut cam is 179/194 and .354/.384. Lift on TBI is basically the same as the Good wrench engine but less duration than the peanut? Makes no sense.

wasn’t the tbi 350 like 190/300 on power/torque? It seems like the aftermarket cam in mine was a hell of a lot better than the stocker. I found my specs for mine:
intake lift @ .050 204
exhaust lift @ .050 214
Adv intake duration 278
Adv exhaust duration 288
Int Valve lift with factory rockers 0.420
Exh valve lift “””“””””””””””””””””” 0.433
LSA 112

"Advertised", closer to 15% less. I'll go out and measure my Mr GoodWrench cam and get back to you - not really, lol.

Ah, I forgot I moved "Chevy" out with "Gear head", accurate measurements may not be obtainable but, I think duration might be 15 years in the deserts. Sorry - I couldn't help myself!:head3::head3:
