Hi everybody,

I have a 1997 K1500 5.7l with the Vortec. My truck is having intermitant long cranking times before it starts. My question is what could cause it?

Fuel Pressure key on engine off 55 psi

key on engine running 53-55 psi

fuel pressure holds for atleast 5 mins

New parts within last 3 months
-fuel filter
-plugs,cap,rotor,wires
-spider injection system
-front o2 sensors

Thanks for your help!

Does it seem to happen when hot more often than when cold? That points to electronics if so.

To be honest it's like it's completly random. Almost like the computer flips a coin to decide how it wants to let the motor start:lol:

How is your battery and charging system? I know it sounds weird, but seeing what all you have done fuel and spark related all that is really left is electronics. Well other than a bad ignition module or crank position sensor...

That does remind me....... New battery in Nov. New alternator in October. Crank sensor in Aug. When running vehicle volt gauge reads 14v-15v

I guess that leaves Ign mod?

yea, should be a way to test it, but might be cheap enough to replace to rule it out. Other than that I am out of ideas

I will take the ign module in to get tested atleast 3 times before I pay $75 for a BWD one or $131 for ACDelco

I didn't know the price of a new one. I agree with you on getting yours tested 3 times haha before replacing it. Do you have any codes stored?

Just the 1 rear o2 sensor that the wiring is ripped off of.......got to go to the junkyard to clip a pigtail to repair the wireing for the o2, i'm not gonna pay $60 for a piece of plastic with 4 wires placed in it:nono:
