Have the guy confirm what brakes the thing has. It's got plenty of pulling power, but can it stop?

What is the rated towing capacity?

Google says: 10,000 to 10,300 lbs
I imagine that is with a weight distribution hitch.

As far as brakes, the part numbers match up the 2500's

The frame is nearly identical to a 2500HD frame all the way back to the last ~2 feet behind the rear axle, it necks down to 1500 size by the reciever hitch. The 1500HD's don't have a 1.5" body lift because of this. All of the frame before the rear axle is WAY beefier than 1500 stuff. They definitely don't have a 1500 frame though. Front suspension/brakes are identical to a 2500HD (torsion bars may be stiffer on a 2500HD), and they have either a 14 bolt semi floater rear end or dana 60. The biggest difference between a 1500HD and 2500HD besides the semifloater is that a 6.0 1500HD could have 3.73 gears, while all 2500HD's had 4.10's.

I love my 1500HD, the 3.73's leave a little to be desired though. Braking power is light years ahead of my sierra denali with the same engine/towing capacity. Mine has hydroboost, not sure if all do.

EDIT: the 1500HD will have the NP246 auto-trac transfer case as well, while a 2500HD won't

Keep in mind the 6.0 will like to rev a lot more than a 5.7. I prefer the low end torque of a 5.7, but you can't beat the reliability and top end power of the LS engines.

After driving both I'd have to say that the midrange of a 6.0 is as good as or better than a 5.7, stock for stock. When you do need to downshift, there's a lot more to look forward to in a 6.0. A tuned 6.0 still made less low end torque than my 5.7 in my 1500 in sig before blower and marine intake.

It's my understanding that the "body lift" on the HD trucks came from a much taller mid section (under cab) of frame, and that the front clip was really the only part that was lifter per se. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

The 6.0 definitely has more midrange and way more top end power, but they just don't lug down low like a 5.7 will. Yanking trailers around town is more comfortable with a 350 in my experience, but the 6.0 will hold 3,000 rpm's down the interstate all day long without breaking a sweat. it's a matter of preference, both of my 6.0 trucks are loud as hell so when they shift down it can get a little annoying, I'm sure thats where most of my apprehension comes from.

I *believe* the body lift is an actual body lift, but I've never actually measured both a 1500HD and a 2500HD. This is why I mentioned the frame shrinking under the bed. From visual inspection, it looks to me like the 1500HD's bed sits lower and it has no body lift, while the 2500HD's bed sits up higher and the body is lifted to compensate (and clear the allison/duramax), and the frame rails under the body appear to be the same size. Like I said, I've never measured but this is what I was told on facebook by someone who put his 1500HD body on a 2500HD frame (he was building a quadrasteer duramax). In the 03-07 trucks the only front clip change for the actual heavy duty trucks is the taller bumper cover, an 01-2 1500HD won't have the taller grill or hood of a 2500HD.

I agree. My work truck is a 2016 with the 6.0. Runs like a race horse, but has to be 'used'.

Half ton frame with 2500 stuff bolted on as I recall. Dodge made one as well.
Really? I've never heard of that

2500s can be had with 3.73s
