Hei or Msd?

Converting tbi 350/4l60 to carb/th400 it will be going into a truck as a “fun” daily. I really just need ideas?

Carb and TH400? HEI all the way. They're cheap, they work great, and they only need a single wire.

HEI is OEM grade and MSD is now known for slowly taking a downturn in recent years.

MSD street fire module inside the HEI, there's really no need for more for regular driving.

On the transmission part, bear in mind the 400 has a very tall first gear, you may not like it after driving a 4L60E, I'd choose a TH700R4 instead, that has the exact same gearing plus the OD for fuel economy, second choice would be TH350, slightly better first gear but not overdrive which frankly is nice to have.

TH400 doesn't need a TV cable, and can handle all the torque a small block can throw at it.
