So what's the difference between them?

DELPHI Part # FG0086 {#FG0087} MODULAR FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY
Exc RFI Filter Stamped GAV; Contains Internal Pump Strainer

DELPHI Part # FG0087 MODULAR FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY
RFI Filter, Stamped GDJ, GFK (Only 1 Remaining)

What does the "stamping" mean?

There's a three letter code like the ones you listed on a sticker on the OE pump assembly. You need that code, or the part number of the aftermarket pump that's in the truck, to get the correct assembly. It's a PITA because you need to pull the assembly before ordering to be sure you get the correct one.

It should hum but not whine. I need to replace mine soon too.

Yea, I'd say mine is more of a wine than hum.

How hard is it to drop the fuel tank to fix this? Wondering if I should do it myself or let a shop do it.

Take the bed off! Especially with your light fiberglass stepside. Way easier than dropping the tank.
