Same story, pull the cover and either look for the stamping on the ring gear or start counting teeth and doing math.

Ok say I've got it out nothing hooked and I mark a starting point on the yoke and cv flange could I tell what gearing it is by that

If the actuator is engaged, yes, you could hold one flange perfectly still and rotate the pinion. Either take the actuator out, plug it to the truck, select 4x4, then unplug it, or drop a socket in the hole and reinstall the actuator to engage the differential. The ratio you come up with this way will be 1/2 of your gear ratio.

counting turns on a front diff can be complicated. Easiest as has been said is to just crack it open and look at the ring gear. Good excuse to change the fluid if you're using it anyway.
