Have a 1998 k1500 with a 8.25 front diff, recently took the diff out and rebuilt it and when I got under it today the drivers side output shaft/cv axle stub was able to slide back and forth with slight play. When I rebuilt the diff I put the shaft in and I heard the shaft click with the snap ring and even gave it a good tug to be sure. Is this Normal where it just gets pulled out from regular turning/driving? No noises and 4x4 still works but would prefer not to get stranded in a mud pit.

The shim between the clutch gears will eventually fall when the axle gets pulled out far enough. It will then block the clutch sleeve from sliding across and you'll lose 4wd.
