Just replacing the stock Y pipe with 2.5" mandrel bent pipes into a decent 2 into one at 3" will do wonders. Throw in a high flow cat and a decent muffler and even the shorty headers do well.

Why not just go with long tube headers then while you are at it. There's always something better. All these $100 Chinese ebay shorty headers are restrictive. A quick look up into the collector will show you that your Y pipe won't be the problem. They are just a convenient, cheap, emission compliant alternative to cast iron manifolds, nothing more.
