This is off my 91 Sierra. 1500. Rear ended I think is I think the high one 310 factory one. This is not posi When I turn the wheel back and forth lightly it makes a CLUNKING noise. Is this somewhat normal I’m not running no high performance on this. My truck has 150 km.

There will be some clunking in the rear when, say, you rock the drum on one side (as you've pictured). There's quite a bit of free play in that geartrain.

Yes a bit of free play. Thx for that. Just purchased2 months ago. Drove it once on test drive. -30 it was. Kind of heard funny stuff back there when I put in gear. Etc. the odd time. So I was wondering.

You might wish to crawl under the truck and turn the various parts... driveshaft, left axle, right axle, while holding one of the others fixed. Doing so will exercise all the gears (spider gears, ring, pinion) and bearings (pinion, differential carrier, axle bearings), allowing you to feel and hear them.

While you're at it, pull the drums and look for any oil leakage from around the axles. There's an oil seal there, at the end of the axle housing, and it can start to leak if, for example, the bearing on the end of the axle is worn.

Others may have useful comments for you.

I blew the pictures up. Can't tell for sure, but they appear to be the terrible 254mm Leading/Trailing shoe brakes that I'd expect on a 1500. Mated to, of course, the weakass 10-bolt 8.5" ring gear rear axle.

Before you put ten cents or thirty minutes into that axle, see if you can score a similar-gear-ratio 9.5" ring gear axle with 11.150 duo-servo drums. You'll be WAY ahead compared to dumping money into parts that shouldn't have been installed on a full-size truck to begin with.

Oh ok. That rear end looks small to me. I m sure it’s the factory one. U yo ou kniw more about these. I see that. I’ll know more when I drive it. See if it makes funny noise etc when I put in gear. Etc. it’s no power house truck. Drive it till it blows yes. And replace it with something else better. Yes. Thx gor that. Appreciated
