Finally got around to pulling the carb apart. Carbs going to get a complete overhaul. I think someone left it outside. It's got pitting and water damage the carb smells like a toilet too.
Air horn feels like it's welded together I hope the float bowl doesn't Have any water damage.

While that carb can surely work, it is not the style I like to use myself. I like the newer ones with added screws on the front of the airhorn. They resist warping as easily and have an APT lean stop that is externally adjustable.

I pulled the air horn apart and it's actually pretty clean. The carb was sitting outside though. Air horn gasket was swelled float looks new.

I think this carb has potential. I mean its an 800. They're cheap to rebuild and maintain and they can handle up to 650 hp.

So I finally got the motor up on the stand today. Pulled the intake off and it's pretty clean in there. I thought the motor was locked up at first but I think it's just got a light film of rust from moisture. But I got it freed up after work.

I think I got a leaky valve on number 6. oh well if it smokes a bit at start up so be it.

Hi y'all back again. Some of parts got here, including my oil pan seal. Pulled the pan on the vortec motor and BEHOLD. 4 bolt main. I'd say this motor was worth the 500 at 116181 miles. I didn't know that truck was a 3500 though.

The factory engine in my 1500 van was a 4-bolt. That is also a nodular crank. A bit stronger than the standard cast units. It likely has a single roller timing chain as well. The bad part is it probably has a single angle valve job on those heads.

From what I have seen, if it was a 1-ton engine it would have a longer windage tray and matching 5qt oil pan.
