Any idea what this is clamped to my rear axle?

94 Chevrolet 3500. This is clamped onto the right rear axle tube. Is it some sort of girdle for strength?

They are what hold your leaf springs, along with your u-bolts. You have an extra set for some reason.

Would the shackles ever be that far inboard? I was thinking that as well but I couldn't see why they'd be there lol.

Yeah, that's weird. There would be nothing to mount any leaf springs in-line with those shackles, except sheetmetal from the bed. I think some C&C trucks had a rear sway bar, but I don't see how this is for that either: @Supercharged111 posted a photo recently and I noticed the rear sway bar.

Years ago (back in '73 I think) I had a 65 Impala 327 SS. I helped a buddy of mine pick up a 409 at the boneyard, we put it in the trunk, I kept it there all winter to help with traction when I lived in Milwaukee WI. I guess you could say I had a spare engine
