Schurkey is right. The snorkel door is close when cold and opens when wax pellet temp sensor applys vacuum to open door. Helps with fuel and icing at the throttle valves so they don't stick. Carb vehicles need a constant air temp to control a fixed air/fuel adjustment. CCC carbs had a wider range of fuel control, but still used the air cleaner heater for operation during winter. Coolant use used to heat throttle valve now, but over the years, I have had hesitation when cold only on Camera...heater tube missing fixed it. Fords VV7200 would ice up and stick in light snow and Volvo's using CIS would freeze and stick from moisture from missing crankcase fresh air intake tube that allows clean air for crankcase gasses to be removed by PCV system. Seen a few things. If you live where it does not get cold, you might get by without it. Other wise, you only have a few components to make it work right.
