I'm wanting to swap in a smaller steering wheel with airbag into my 97. I would like to keep it a factory wheel as well. Anyone know if one from a car would be direct fit?

first off welcome, as for your question i think gm used almost the same columns in multiple years so id think any steering wheel from a remotely similar column would work. you could try a vans or a cars.

Yea I've researched all the factory wheels gm made for cars and trucks. None of them are what I'm looking for so the best alternative is the wheel that came on the NBS angle eye trucks. I want to find one without radio controls. If not that wheel then a 98+ wheel.

Incorrect. 95-97 used a larger airbag, 98-00 GMT400 trucks used the same airbag as 99-02 GMT800 trucks. Of the 99-02 trucks, only certain models (denali, escalde) could be had with steering wheel audio. 03-07 trucks used another steering wheel as well, and could be had with or without controls.

Here is a writeup I did on swapping steering wheels for the smaller style 98+ airbag and audio controls. I know 95-97 can directly be swapped with 98-02 wheels. I do not know about 03+.

98-02 steering wheels will fit right on to the 95-97 steering column with no modifications at all.

03 wheels will NOT fit, as they have a different spline count. I've got an 03+ steering column I'm putting in my 97, but haven't gotten around to it yet and am still looking for pin outs for the connectors.

Not all 03+ steering wheels have controls. Some trucks lack them, and I believe most vans do as well.
