i would just put it right where the hvac and radio is and try to find some way to reroute the hvac with a different control unit

Yeah. It's so you can cut or drill them for switches. All my 400s have had them? I thought it was common...

I get what you are saying though. As far as being wide enough, it very well may fit. But It's just not deep enough. The clearance through that part of the dash is only a few inches.
If you could find a way to make it deeper, it could work.

My interior looks just like yours. and yeah, if you could fit the DD in that hvac, would be perfect spot, tobad their isnt enough room!
