88-98 4x4 axle in a 2000 1500 pickup?

am curious as to whats different, we parts these trucks out, and ran into this situation today, and the gentleman didnt care about the drum brakes, however i was leary to sell him an axle not knowing if it would work, saw something about maybe the u-joint being different

You can get a conversion joint but i think the pad width for the leafs are different.

The width is different, 2wd's are narrower from WMS to WMS
