By the way, the external thread lug nuts are not exclusive to steel wheels. The 1st style asterisk wheels used them with plastic lugnut caps too

Yup, with the surface rust on mine, I coated them with rust converter, then textured truck bed coating. Best color matching upgrade I did

I've got a full set from the '89 I'm restoring that have never seen New Yuck winter salt. The last thing I'm doing in the resto before getting it on the road is putting new rubber on them. For now they're sitting in my basement, in the dark, in plastic bags.

Yup I have painted a few steel wheels back in the day . Always more of a job than you think it's gonna be.....
