The cheapest good Full Synthetic 5W30 or 10W30 I can find ;)

Rural King: https://www.ruralking.com/catalogsearch/result/?&q=11043595+11043599+11043607+11043603

5.7L Truck has 220k and needs about a quart between 5000 mile changes. 5.7L Van has 70k and needs about quart between changes. Loaded up the the gills and towing GCWR around 16000lbs.

I tend to put 10w-30 in everything that calls for 5w-30, but I live in TX.
It really doesn't matter, both go up to the same temperature recommendation (30 Celsius = 86 Fahrenheit) switching to 10W40 (40 C = 104F) would be more beneficial for a hot climate.

If the owner's manual calls for it, I would. (Or if I was having low oil pressure.) Reason I prefer 10w-30 over 5w-30 is supposedly the 10 has less viscosity modifiers.

Ok I’ll throw
My two pennies on the floor. I run Mobil 1 5W-30 in my 91 350. With zero problems. It doesn’t leak or consume any oil between 3K oil changes. I have about 80K in this engine and I drive it to work 68 miles each way 5 days a week. I drive through the Mohave desert in AZ in well above 120F every summer. Along with close to 0 in the winter as I live up in the mountains. The biggest reason I run this oil is because my LS engines in my newer trucks call for Dexos and I don’t want to keep different oils on the shelf. Im my 454 engines I run 15w-40 because they are not roller lifter engines. So they can share the same oil with my 6.2 and 6.5 diesel engines.
Again zero problems with extreme temperature swings.

0W30 and 0W40 FTW. If they start making -5W30 I'll start running that. Doesn't matter if you live in TX, oil cooler than operating temp is way too thick period. 30 or 40W at operating temp fits the bill fine.

The correct oil to use is Valvoline High Mileage because:

1. Valvoline is America colors.

And:

2. The jugs have a molded pour spout. It will change your life.

The real game changer is their bagged gear oil.
