    Cooling system mess...help me out

Hey Brother Al, thabks for the reminder. I have still been using water in my cooling system. Great news though! No oil! I've flushed the water out about 4 times since my last post. I gues was the old radiator. Unfortunately the cooling system still has sediment and rust build up. I've flushed it...

    Wheels for my stock K1500

It's hard to find stock wheels. The stock of an 88 or 89 alloy 5 spoke are my favorite but though to find. It's always hard to tell if 285s will rub on aftermarket wheels. I like the sticking out look but you won't get that with stock wheels. I'm going through the same dilemma!!!

    Stepside truck box

Thanks! Yeah I think that's the ticket. The 54 inch box looks like the only one that will fit.

    Code reader

what would be a code reader for our old trucks. My 89 service engine light comes on when driving over 60mph for 10 min or so. Local pepboys says nothing is popping up on their code reader. The light stays on until I shut the truck off and start it back up. It never comes on around town just when...

    89 manual loud as hell!

If I were to upgrade to a NV4500 what would I have to change?

    Stepside truck box

do they even make a traditional style tool box for the bed of a Stepside ! I can't find one anywhere. I want one that hangs on the bedrails instead of sitting inside the bed but I can't fine any with a 48 inch base!

    93 stepside

I have the same truck but an 89. After debating BL and suspension lifts I decided to run stock for a year or so. I can't believe you fit 12.5s. I was under the assumption 33 10.5 would be the biggest we could fit. Do you know what the stock rims backspacing is? Compared to your 12.5s

    89 manual loud as hell!

So I changed the fluid with synchromesh a well or so ago. It does seem a lot better. It's by no means smooth but I'm wondering if you'd classify it as a little notchy lol.

    The Body Lift Thread

I was banking on the steering extension but I wasn't sure about the shifter. I want it to work as smoothly as possible, so if a shifter extender is benificial then I'd like to do it. Where can I buy them and how hard are both extensions to install?

    The Body Lift Thread

On an 89 4x4 manual 5 speed. Does anything need to be extended with a 3inch BL? Can't find the answer in this thread.

    Cooling system mess...help me out

Ok I jumped the gun here! It was wrong of me to say oil is coming from the oil cooler. Since I put in the new radiator I have not yet drained the system to see if oil is indeed still getting into the coolent. By coolent I mean water. I wanted to test it before I filled with coolent. I've only...

    Back to stock valve covers

IMG_1326 by MLX10 posted May 23, 2017 at 3:22 PM The previous owner of my 89 k1500 installed a "engine dress up kit". It seems to be poor quality. The oil cap is plastic and broken and I feel as though the valve covers are cheap. Would I be able to swap back to stock valve covers? I don't think...

    89 manual loud as hell!

Well I finally got around to changing the fluid today. I haven't been driving it since it's my second vehicle. The fluid seemed fine...but I changed it anyway with pennzoil synchromesh. I guess I'll replace the u joints next. What I forgot to mention which is probably very important is that...

    Cooling system mess...help me out

Ok so I ripper her apart tonight and discovered what I think is good news! The oil that is coming into my cooling system is indeed from the engine oil cooler. There is still some sediment in the block and heating core but I'm not that concerned with it. I do have to decide how to deal with...

    Cooling system mess...help me out

Yes I haven't touched her in a couple weeks because of work and things. It's not my daily driver. Friday I will be ripping into her again. A couple more flushes then new rad, thermostat, and hoses. Oil seems fresh and full even though it does have a minor oil leak. I'll post after I put her back...

    Cooling system mess...help me out

The problem is still the fact that I don't know where the oil is coming from. I'm not sure how to diagnose it. This Friday I will be changing the radiator, hoses, and thermostat. I will attempt to drain out the block and heater core. After that then I will attempt to figure out where this oil is...

    Cooling system mess...help me out

I am not sure I suppose. It looks like oil in water when I'm flushing with water. I don't know what extremely old coolent would look like. If they look similar it's a possibility.

    Cooling system mess...help me out

Anything else I should know before I replace all hoses radiator and thermostat? I'm not seeing and plugs in the block. Still worried about the oil in my coolent

    Cooling system mess...help me out

Thanks Tom! I figured most of it was still in the block and I did not know about those drain holes. I will definitely check that out. Do you have any recommendations on how to flush the system? Besides draining, filling it with water, running it for ten minutes, then draining it again? I'm...

    Cooling system mess...help me out

I was hoping to hear something like this. I would be very happy if it was the oil cooler. If deleting the oil cooler would fix the problem I'd be all for it. I'd prefer to to fix it though. Fingers crossed on it being the oil cooler...

    Cooling system mess...help me out

i have a new to me 89 k1500 manual. It's in decent shape I thought.... but the cooling system was a disaster. It thick brown with a lot of sediment. The previous owner did not touch it. The thermostat has been stuck open for god knows how long so it's been running around 100 degrees. Today I...

    89 manual loud as hell!

I agree. I will most definitely cover all simple and less expensive bases first. Fluid, U bolts, etc.... I'll post an update with some pictures and possibly a video after I get a chance to get some things done.

    89 manual loud as hell!

Damn. Expensive as in over $1000 all said and done? Before I take that leap of faith I'm going to make sure I diagnose it correctly and do all the minors things first.

    89 manual loud as hell!

Thanks guys it's definitely helpful. I'm not sure what you mean by notchy. I realize it realize it will never be smooth. Before I put money into the loft and tied and such I want to make sure the trans is on decent condition. Thabks for letting me know the trans is 5LM60 I had a hard time...
