    Tbi to vortec heads

But like I said, I'm keeping this simple, I'll just get whatever cam will work best with a stock set of vortec heads with minimal work.

How do I know for sure I'm capable of a roller swap without tearing down the motor.

    Tbi to vortec heads

I think I'm just going to get some decent vortec heads and freshen them up, vortec to carb intake and look for some roller parts and if I haven't found any for the right price by then, I'll just go flat tappet. Just play it by ear and save the cam for last. Once that's done, I'll get a tune and...

    Tbi to vortec heads

Should I just start looking for a complete donor engine then? Just a vortec motor and pull the parts I need? Or should I try to find them separately? Heads from here, roller parts there, and just collect till I have everything I need. I'm not in a rush so if it's worth the wait and money to find...

    Tbi to vortec heads

Is it really worth it for what my plans are? I'm not looking to get a cam that so aggressive I loose my brakes haha. The tbi can only handle about 5000 rpms right? I don't need a cam that makes all it's power in that range. Just something with a nice lope, and smooth gains throughout the curve...

    Tbi to vortec heads

Anyone know where to get a kit with all the parts to go roller then? If it's easy and the motor can stay in without tearing down everything else I'm all ears if it's worth the cost.

    Tbi to vortec heads

I agree that a full engine swap, top to bottom built would be the BEST way to go. But I'm looking for moderate gains out of a simple swap. Just bolt the parts on, get her data logged and tuned, then have a little fun out with my buddies in my ole "slow" heavy chevy haha. Then once she gives out...

    Tbi to vortec heads

I know that the 87 up blocks have everything needed for the rollers but I was under the assumption that they weren't drilled or tapped but I could be completely wrong. If they are drilled and everything, what's involved with putting in the parts? Do I need to pull the motor to do this? Because...

    Tbi to vortec heads

See I'm definitely not into doing an entire engine swap. That's just too much for what I have in mind. And she is already well maintained and running like she is supposed to from gm, these trucks are just pretty darn slow haha. I'm sure y'all already know haha. I am just planning on casually...

    Tbi to vortec heads

And I definitely want to keep my stock brakes for now as well as not play with the transmission for the time being. And the cam will have to be flat because I simply can't afford to go roller at this point.

    Tbi to vortec heads

Ok so I have read, and read, and read, and read about this swap. This is what my situation is. I have a 95 Z71 tbi. It is an absolute dog when I put it to the floor. Sure she slings a lot of mud and never leaves me stranded in any hole I put her in. But ole bessy is just down right slow haha. I...

    A/C only blows hot

Wow that's awesome. Thanks so much. Guess I know what I'm going to be trying this weekend.

    A/C only blows hot

Thanks man, I didn't realize the temp settings were affected by a blend door as well. I'm sure that one of those is my problem then. I changed my entire AC system last summer. So if the door isn't receiving signal, it'd be due to faulty wiring somewhere between the hvac and the actuator...

    A/C only blows hot

So yesterday my A/C was ice cold thanks basically replacing everything last summer. But today after running the heater on defroster for about 5 minutes this morning, it only blows hot air. When I switch to heat, it gets warmer but it's still freaking hot when the hvac is all the way cold. And...

    Gauge reads 260 help!

How does swapping clusters affect my odometer reading?

    Gauge reads 260 help!

So I'm assuming I would just be looking for a 95+ dash and just pull it apart first. But what about after that? Any kind of soldering or is the motor more just pull from the junk one and swap it directly?

    Gauge reads 260 help!

See that's what I am leaning towards. Just not real sure. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that it goes all the way back to zero when the engine is cool. It just quickly bypasses the normal 190-210 range on it's way up haha. Very quickly.

    Gauge reads 260 help!

That has to be the one I changed then. That's where it was haha. It's been a couple months. My mistake haha.

    Gauge reads 260 help!

I changed the temp sensor that goes in the side of the block and the other one that is on top of the motor. I forget exactly where it is but both have been changed. I haven't tried the sending unit. I dont even know where that's at. Do you have a part number for it?

    Gauge reads 260 help!

I believe it's just the gauge. I wasn't sure if there was a similar fix the fluttering gas gauge or something. Because like I said, it acts normally. It shows temperature changes and everything. It just so happens to read 260 all the time. I was hoping someone else could have had the same problem.

    Gauge reads 260 help!

Basically the truck overheated really quickly and the gauge went way past 260 and I immediately whipped into a parking lot and got some water and blah blah blah. Fixed the radiator and water pump and new thermostat. Ever since then, gauge reads 257.

    Gauge reads 260 help!

I got the water pump at oriellys and it's working fine. The system is completely full of coolant and I've been driving with the gauge reading 260 for almost a year. And the temp laser was reading about 140 after we let her warm up for a while and the gauge was showing 215ish. I just discovered...

    Gauge reads 260 help!

My truck had overheated a couple months ago due to a blow radiator and I changed the water pump while I was there too. So my gauge reads 260 degrees well about 257 degrees when out normally driving. But the truck isn't overheating. It acts normally as if it were reading the normal 190ish, just...

    2014 Iridium metallic

Thanks man! I meant to post color matchin as an option but completely forgot. I would really like to do that, it's just more expensive haha. I just have them plastidipped for now because the chrome looks exactly what you'd expect abused, 20 year old chrome to look like haha.
