I could be wrong but I thought that the 454ss rear and the 2wd and 4x4 6 lug 14 bolts were the only 9.5s on these trucks and if you got 8 lug you got a 10.5 weather it is a full float or a semi float dose any one have any thing to confirm this or to prove it incorrect

There is no 10.5" semi-floating axle. The 10.5 is full floating, and the 9.5 is semi-floating. The SS axle is special because it's not an 8-lug... I think they're 5 lugs. (The SS is on the fringes of my knowledge)

Here's the breakdown: (to the best of my knowledge!)(if I'm stating anything in error, feel free to correct it!)
454SS has a 9.5 semi floating axle...with 5 lug, 5 on 5" bolt circle. Like the other 2wd half tons. Rare as hen's teeth.
4x4 half tons got a 8.5 SF, with 6 lugs.
The light duty (6 lug) 2500s got a 9.5 SF (I think).
The heavy duty 2500s got an 8 lug 9.5 SF.
The 3500 s got the 10.5 FF, and I believe it could be ordered for the 2500s. I've seen some 2500 big block Burbs with the HD towing package, and they had the full floating axle.

I think you are right how ever there is some weird $#!+ that happens some time here is a example that I have personally experianced with our project frank'm truck the rear that we removed from the C-2500 extend cab long bed 6.5 turbo diesel was a full float axle but it had really skinny brake drums on it the rear we pulled from the 92 K-2500 suburban was a full float rear that had the same drums that are on our 97 K-3500 crew cab long bed 6.5 turbo diesel

Anyone know if there’s a kit to put gmt800 2500 rear disk brakes on one of these? I just happened to have a set laying around.
As far as I know for swapping an NBS rear in it's a simple matter of moving the spring perches and shock mounts, brake lines and parking brake cables should all bolt together. Got a welder friend who can be bribed with beer and food?

I think you are spot on might also need a covertion u joint but I do not think that the op wanted to do a rear swap I think all he wanted to do is remove his drum brakes and put on gmt800 rear discs I think he was asking if there is a kit for it

Was actually hoping to just swap the disk brakes, but I did go to weld school so I could do all that work. Don’t think it would be worth it unless the factory axles gives up on me. I’ll just actually take it somewhere to have the drums serviced because I hate messing with drum brakes, although they do work well for heavy trucks.

So here it is, a free to me 1996 GMC 2500, 4x4, 5.7, that belong to my uncle who wrecked it into a palm tree 5 years ago and recently kicked the bucket passing it down to me.

My goal is to have a nice, mostly stock, retro tow rig for short hauls in state with under #10k behind it. Most often will be trips an hour or so away with 4wheelers and a RCSB ranger on a trailer, or dragging more busted junk home to piss my lovely wife off.

You must be registered for see images attach

The 'C6P' RPO code means that your truck was originally built as a 8600 GVWR. (Heavy 3/4 ton)
My truck also has the C6P code, and it came from the factory with the 10.5" full floater. (See attached.)
If you were to take off your 8-lug center cap and take/post a photo we'll know for sure what you got.

Nice truck BTW. Everyone here in the rust belt would take that vehicle on as a keeper without hesitation. :0)

And Welcome to the GMT400 forum!
