Has anybody here removed/plugged the IAC?

but to answer your original question, you can control idle with just the blade, but it will help if you add transfer slots like a carb. But then its still just a metered air leak, as the fuel isn't added until the injector way down by the valve.... I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish here.

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish here.

A (paid for) camper hauler that is as simple/reliable as possible, while still taking advantage of the tech that allows us to make decent power on todays crappy pump fuel. Eliminating stuff like the IAC is important to me, but I am obviously in the minority here. That is just fine.

It would be really nice to have pictures. I'm having trouble visualizing this from my TBI perspective.

The main reason that I update this is because before doing it I searched online for answers. All that I found were a bunch of people saying why you shouldn't do it, or people who had a truck that barely was in running condition, and they were trying to save $$$ - which isn't why I did this.

I have done it, and with my particular set up - it was an improvement. The truck runs better, is simpler, and I have more control over what is happening when I start this truck.

I have NO A/C
Dual 2 3/4" exhaust
Open intake
no egr
no cats
Blackbear tune
New Gm goodwrench 350
New mpfi upgrade

Again - this info is to help anybody who might do a search sometime.

An update for the internet experts :)

I now have Air conditioning again. The truck still runs awesome with no functioning IAC. I have over 30,000 miles on this set up.

Whether it is 20 below zero, or 95 above with the AC on high - this runs and works mint.

I unplugged my IAC on my 91 K1500. It had a surge at idle I couldn’t get rid of. Changed valves a few times with no luck. So I did the iac reset procedure and just never plugged it back in. Truck idles smoothly. It doesn’t seem to matter if the AC is on or not.

Vacuum leak/s or fuel delivery issue will cause surging.

Yea I went down the vacuum leak rabbit hole first. I even hone stoned the base of the TB to remove highs spots. I also thought it was leaking around the throttle shaft. I swapped the whole TB from my other truck. Still surged. It’s been at least 2 years with the IAC unplugged. It still idles smoothly without it . I set the idle speed with the screw.
