I hope I didn't blow the engine up some how.
Not likely, so don't get too worked up.

How tight is the distributor shaft? Does it have play in it?

Is that a crack in the magnet under the rotor? If so, replace your distributor with a good one from your local Pull-A-Part.

From your description with the backfire and pop back through intake is timing/ firing issue.

And my bet is you crossed a wire when you put them back or erratic signal from a junk aftermarket distributor, which my vote is distributor.

Not hating on your stuff, I've just been down that road with aftermarket junk and it's really horrible with the TBI stuff.

Yeah I was thinking that too. I bought the distributor from a company called most quality plus.I think looked like a great distributor.

I was looking for a shaft from ac Delco but google kept pulling up ac Delco EST marine distributors

I would check the timing next. Do you have a timing light? Check out this video:

Alright so i pulled the distro out and the bushing was gone on the bottom didn't have end play in the truck but good lord it did when I pulled it. So bought a new distributor from WAI global no end play.

Plus one of the teeth on the bottom was sheered of so that means it was dipping down and getting intermittent spark. So I'm gonna retime the truck manually and do base a total fingers crossed.
