Just go with an aftermarket 4-link. The setup on the '72 is triangulated, which if used on an '88-'98, would require the fuel tank to be removed/relocated, among other things.

OK here is my dumb question. :)

I want a 3/5 to avoid a C notch (for now, 4/6 or 5/8 is the ultimate goal), I am not sport driving atm so I think cutting a coil in the front will do, (maybe 1.5?) anywho, what is going to get me 5" in the rear as cheap as possible? My truck claims 300,000+ miles but I don't know which parts have that many miles on them.

Honestly, if you're trying to avoid notching, I would stick with a 2/4. When I had a 2/4, it wasn't all that hard to bottom out in the rear. With an extra inch, I'd have been slapping the axle all the time. Anything more than 4" really needs a notch.

As far as cutting, I don't know how much to tell you. Someone on FSC before had posted how much to cut to get x amount of drop, but that was a loooong time ago. My suggestion is time- and labor-intensive, but I would suggest to cut 1/2 coil and then put it together and see how it sits. If it's not low enough, cut another 1/2 coil and repeat until satisfied. It's a lot of extra work, but if you're going to try and save the money from buying drop springs, you can afford the time and work.

Cool 1BadGMC, thanks. I was afraid you would tell me to do the cut half reinstall, cut half again. haha, but yea, that is how you save money. waste time ;)

As for the rear, 4" drop got it. whats the best cheapest way? shackles + hangers? Trying to stay cheaper to get some drop now, knowing I will be adding more drop later. and I will be C notching at some point. it is stupid easy now with bolt in kits...

Yeah, I went through that with some coils on an old Caprice I had. Luckily, it only took 2 cuts.

The cheapest way will be shackles and hangers, but unfortunately cheap doesn't equal easy. The shackles are cake, but the hanger install is a royal pain in the ass.
