Thinking about that recall for the trans vent hose, remember back then our trucks had that big flat pellet style Cat. I wonder if the fluid would puddle on it and then catch fire? With my little high flow Cat off to the side of the trans looks to be pretty much out of the way.

Yes. I didnt have a gmt400 on fire but I have had a th350 and a presumably pellet cat in a 77 Electra catch fire after the vacuum hose, which was not the right hose, and was pulling ATF through it, broke, or it pushed out the vent(either way I had a fire lol)

A Buick with a Buick engine in it, figure this must be an early one. Didn't they get into the engine swapping hijinks around that time? I know back in the day, we had to be up on the distinguishing characteristics of the various GM engines, to help people get the correct parts.

77 , and I believe the divisions lost their distinction beside the buick v6 and the oldsmobile 307 by the very early 80s, if not late 70s?

I know a 260 oldsmobile was still made in 1980 because the cutlass has one.. lol

I brought mine to the local dealerships about that seatbelt recall a couple years ago. They said they couldn’t get the parts for it.

Our '82 LeSabre Estate Wagon had a 307 Olds engine in it. I remember in the late '70s, being in a major Pontiac/GMC dealership on our side of town, looking at new cars and trucks. And seeing cars with non Pontiac engines in them. We got our parts store in May '78 and Dad had already been working there for years. Mom and I would often come over there and help with things, even before we owned it. And this was a thing already because I remember them talking about it. That dealership trip, Dad asked the salesman if he could explain why this Pontiac had a non Pontiac engine in it. Salesman got real quiet and gave us the side eye, finally gave him some BS explanation. Don't think we stayed there too much longer.....

The 4L60E came out of my 97 in 2000 at 38K miles. No vent hose anywhere in sight. To this day it does not have one.

My grandfathers wife had an early 80s Coupe Deville with a 4.1 Buick V6 in the early 90s that got stolen, stripped, had acid poured on the yellow paint, then the theives tried to burn it. Beautiful, good running car until it got torched.

Yes the '79s that got the 400 are way more desirable than the Olds powered ones. I remember the few car guys at my high school talking about it. One guy had a '75 Formula with a built 400 in it, another guy had a '78 C10 short bed with a 350 that probably wasn't stock. His older brother had a very cool '74 K5 Blazer, that metallic olive green, with a 350. I got to ride in that one, it was fun but the short WB takes getting used to. Then another dude that was a senior when I was a freshman, so I didn't know him as well, had a lifted F250 4x4, '79 I think, that was Bigfoot blue. Our school had a quarter mile driveway to get to the street, and guys were always trying to do burnouts when they left....
BTW this was in 1980-84....small coed Catholic high school, about 400 kids when everyone was there. Our "marching" band had 11 people, but both our trombonists were football players. We usually stayed in the stands except for homecoming.... I was one of the drummers. Senior year I carried the bass drum because the other two percussionists played better snare drums(but also because they couldn't carry it!).

It probably has a small metal "cap" i would think
