Hey everyone, just bought a project.

I had been looking for a Suburban for a weekend wheeler/camping/hunting/adventure rig. Finally found what I think is the right one.

OBS 99 K2500 LT. 4WD(auto) L29. With the GT5 rear end. Truck has 210k miles, no rust anywhere on the truck. Possible rod knock. I've been doing some diagnosis on it, I believe it may simply be a flexplate/torque converter problem. I will be doing further diagnosis tomorrow however. I am fully prepared to pull the motor and rebuild it if it comes to that though. I'll post some pictures up soon.

I've been doing a lot of research and this forum keeps popping up in most of my searches so I figured I oughta sign up.

Welcome to the forum, from another 99 Burb owner/fixer. Mine is pewter too, but only a 5.7 C1500. Doesn't stop it from hauling though!
My truck had a flywheel issue when my family got it in 2013. The cap and rotor had gotten nasty inside and it was trying to fire more than one cylinder at a time ( really not a good thing on startup). Busted chunks out of some of the teeth, and it gradually got worse. Ended up busting the nose cone off the starter. So I traded a car to a friend of mine who had access to a lift, and he replaced the flywheel. Also replaced the master cylinder and rebuilt the rear brakes, and put a set of tires on it.
We also used to have an 81 GMC pickup with a 305, that had funny noises on startup. Never killed a starter, but we were told that some of those engines had problems with the flywheel bolts coming loose from the crankshaft and rattling around back there. Got rid of it before we ever got into it that far.
So that's a couple of other possibilities for the noises....But once it's squared away, you'll be able to haul pretty much anything but a gooseneck trailer with it.....
