I came across this forum while searching for a way to add an aux input to the stock stereo, and my first few posts were in that context.

So, I figured I'd post a quick introduction of my truck, at least.

My truck is a 94 GMC Sierra K2500 with the 454, 7.4L big block and automatic transmission.

Bought it used in 2017, and have gradually fixed it up to the point where it drives very nicely — for a truck, at least.

I don't know lots about the GMT400 platform, having had a Ford F-150 since 1997, so I've been learning as I go. My hope is that this forum can help me learn more so I can enjoy it, maintain it, and improve it for many years to come.

Thank you!

Welcome!

I hope your experience with a GMT400 will be better than the F150.
Thank you!

The F150 is a fine truck, we just needed something stronger and didn't feel like paying new truck prices. I have friends who have driven Chevys and they love them, so I figured it was worthy of looking into, so when I found the Sierra for sale, I was immediately interested.

More than anything else, though, the mileage was what got my attention: 100k! For a 94, that seems quite excellent, and for less than $10k, it seemed like a no brainer!

So here I am :)

Lot less "special tools" required to work on our trucks, than the equivalent year Fords.

The only real draw back to the tool thing is the mix match SAE and metric size bolts on our trucks. You got to have both. Back when I was doing auto mechanic work everyday, I could look at a bolt head, and tell you what size wrench. I kind if still can, but the metric sizes are so close that you end up under the truck with 2 sets of wrenches and sockets.

My strategy is grab a socket, try it, grab another socket, try it, do that 10000 times until you find the one with the least slack (but still too much slack) then grab the impact and ream til' the bolt is rounded off, then we get out the acetylene torch and just burn the whole truck down.

Jokes aside, yeah metric and standard being mixed is pretty annoying lmao.
