Those are the worst for injectors, I'd try at least one generation newer.

He's had zero luck trying to find a Duramax for a reasonable price, he's pretty set on this one. It won't be used much in the way of daily driving; mainly pulling the camper every couple of weekend. This 02 has new injectors and a new CP3 pump, it's got 312K on it and it's in literally brand new condition. I'll try to get my dad steered in the right direction for getting it taken care of even more; so we'll just see how it goes.

In news with my 96, I noticed a slight misfire get a little worse this morning when it was idling to warm up, I've noticed a little hitch every few resolutions in the past but this one was really noticeable.
Also as I was driving back home last night I noticed the truck would bog down a hair getting on the throttle; so I'll clean some **** to see if it goes away, plus it is about time for a filter change anyway.

+1 for the lbz or lly. Especially when tuned they do pretty well. Imo the tuning and exhaust on the newer Duramaxs really doesn't help how they drive. I wasnt real impressed with my dad's lml until we deleted the emissions and tuned it. Now it pulls like mad and will get 22-23 mpg if cruising unloaded at 70-75. I think he see around 12-13 with their 13k horsetrailer.

I would inspected the cap, rotor, and plug wires for a misfire.

I'll have to experiment some with that, I've got a few sets of cheap junk headlights laying around as well as a few OEM lenses and bases

The LB7 is a truck for my dad; he wants to replace the 99 C3500 with something that'll pull our travel trailer without hesitation.
If he goes with a LB7, invest in a good water fuel and filter system for it. I'd go 1 micron for sure.

Well now I feel bad about myself because I've been looking at LBZs and LLYs for myself all evening:lol:
I could never get rid of this truck though, I'd never forgive myself.

I've been kicking around the idea of road tripping up to Iowa this summer if my dad decides to tote the camper up; and hopefully in the coming months after replacing a good chunk of the front end components, fuel pump, all the filters and fluids changed out, and a shitload of other things I'll be able to make the drive without any worries.

What're your guy's thoughts on a road trip in a 23 year old truck? Like I said, a mountain of new parts is inbound for this thing, good fluids, and some power upgrades so it's not going to be wheezing it's way across I80 trying to keep up with traffic.

Last time I took this thing on the interstate I kept getting pulley noises at 70 miles an hour, which was about 2200 RPM or so; so I'd back it down to 65, it's got a new tensioner and idler pulley; but they are bargain brand parts store too.

In the last 5 tanks, how many times has this truck made you walk home?

It's never left me dead on the road stranded in almost 2 years of ownership and close to 20,000 miles of driving; but 1,000 miles starting off going up over mountains and then steady 75 miles per hour for 16 or 18 hours just makes me nervous.
