Not going to lie, it's going to take me a minute to figure out how to use this.

What the actual **** is that tool?

Oh and thanks for posting all these pictures, I’ll be referencing them when I do mine, I’ve got a significant wiggle at the stub shaft bearing.

That is the Kent-Moore J-36598 holding fixture. Has several purposes, and I believe it was made specifically for the early GM 8.25" and 9.25" IFS axles (like ours). I have to do a kiddo errand, but in the meantime, I believe I have the fixture and axle housing ready to go when I return in about 30 minutes.

Hmmmm. Well seeing it setup makes it obvious what it’s for lol

I’m all upside down, I’m guessing that’s the pinion you’re pushing out.

About to push out, yeah. That long screw on the J-36598 will contact the pinion shaft and if all goes well, after several turns, the pinion shaft/gear will pop out. Debating if I should hit something with the heat gun. Also I need to place something to catch the pinion gear when it falls out, just in case.

Supposedly I could have used the tool to pop out the pinion seal. Oh well.

There's a screw attachment that can also be used to remove the bearing cups from the housing. I'll see how that works soon. Hoping that the screw survives this work in order to be re-used.
