whats the difference

Im looking at replacing my steering box and am curious to know what the difference is between the 7200GVW and 8600GVW steering boxes?

im thinking about replacing mine also, are there any after market options that are better than a reman oem unit ? im not sure about the differances between hd/ld. mines a k3500

its the lock to lock turns, the 8600 has 3-3.5 turns where as the 7200 has 2.5-3, as far as the mounts and shaft sizes there are the same according to the specs from NAPA.

the 1500 and 7200 gvw use the same box(except 454ss) the larger body 8600gvw and 3500 boxes are basically the same externally and without looking i think internally too, you can swap a 1500 box with a 3500hd if you like, they all interchange bolt up wise. 3500hd and 454ss are quick ratio(i have a 3500hd box in my 7200gvw)
