what's the best way to remove a gas tank from a 95 suburban?

Usually, the sound deadener between the tank and body heats up and does a good job of gluing the tank to the floor, so you will have to wrestle with it a bit. Helps if there is little to no fuel in it.

Pour a little bit of acetone or muratic acid into the tank and splosh it around quite a bit. After it's clean pour boiling hot soapy water into the tank and splosh it around. Then rinse the tank out with clean water.

That should work well, or you could take it to a shop that cleans radiators. Most of them do tanks as well.
