ok, so not exactly an obs truck here, but follow along for a minute. this was the best place to go when i had my 89 gmc longbed, so here i come back.

i am installing an 89 c1500 engine and tbi setup in my pro-touring, daily driven, 64 el camino. while doing so, i want to do what the ricers would call a wire tuck. or hide the wires, or whatever you guys want to call it. just a nice, neat, clean installation.

in my state, i do not have inspection. so emissions syuff can be deleted. but for the sake of fuel economy and some emissions compliance, i am retaing at least the egr setup. other than the ultimate tbi mods, a true cowl plenum air cleaner, 2 1/2 exhaust with high flow cats and an x-pipe, and a set of 1.6 rockers, the engine will remain stock.

what i want to do, is make it as visually clean and appealing as possible. wiring harness to the ecm will be run through the trans tunnel. all the rest of the harness will be shortened or rerouted as necessarry for proper operation and cleanest looks.

looking at the engine, it has the esc, some vacuum solenoid, and the coil all mounted to the intake. those are kind of ugly. the air injection setup is already in the scrap metal bin, along with the fullsize accessory drive. using the accessory drive from a vortec blazer (was on the carb'd engine). i have a large cap HEI from a TPI corvette that i would like to use, thereby eliminating the remote mount coil. what do i need to do to utilize it on a tbi setup? im assuming swap the module and wiring over, but after that...

also, the TPI cars had the ECS up on the firewall, as well as the tbi s10's. any reason i cant do that on this engine?

other than the egr valve itself, and the vacuum hoses for it, any emissions equipment i should retain, and why? the EGR will stay, even though i could tune it out. it does help, and enables me to run lean cruise in the ecm programming.

lastly, anyone have any good pictures of a good, detailed, visually cleaned up tbi underhood? ive googled it every which way i can think of for all these questions, and just come up with nothing.

thanks
michael
