My '97 K2500 7.4L has the 10.5 full-float axle, but 8400 lb. GVW and JD7 brakes.Which brake RPO code do you have? JB7 or JB8 (if vacuum boost) or JD7 or JD8 (if hydroboost)
JB7/JD7 = 8400 lbs
JB8/JD8 = 10,000 lbs
I imagine, since you have the 10.5 full float rear axle, it is JB8 or JD8. That would be good.
GVWR 8600#? I've never seen a model with 8400#.My '97 K2500 7.4L has the 10.5 full-float axle, but 8400 lb. GVW and JD7 brakes.
OK, 8600. Not the 10K listed in the earlier post.GVWR 8600#? I've never seen a model with 8400#.

That's what i thought too. I would expect a 3500 pound camper to squat the rear end more. That's a mod I've been wanted to do to my truck to help with sag....although in that photo OP posted the rear doesn't look too bad if the camper actually weighs 3,500#.
My '97 service manual says JB8 varies between single-rear wheel and dual-rear-wheel vehicles. Both rear brakes are 13" drums x 3 1/2" shoes. The front brakes are different--12 1/2" rotors 1.26 thick on single-rear-wheel vehicles, 12 1/2" rotors 1.5" thick on dualies. My truck has the JB8 brake code, whatever that means?
Unfortunately, I have the JB7 brakes. I must say that it stops just fine with the camper. You've been super helpful GMCTruck!sample from the web
