Starter sticking, what could be the cause?

I think you'll be quite pleased with a mini starter.

As long as it starts, it can have a purple people eater under there!
Mini starter (well smaller than the one that came off) is on and working great. Only took about an hour and a half, and that's counting getting out/putting up the tools. Of course it helps that I've done this job on both '99 Burbs, and on some of our square body trucks. And that everything came apart and went back together good, and this is a job that doesn't require many tools. 9/16 socket, ratchet and extensions, cheater pipe to get the old starter bolts broken loose (they have been on there since September 1996 to be fair), and 5/16 and 1/2 nutdrivers for the wires.
Not what I was planning on doing today (toy show got cancelled, so instead of getting up early and making a little money, I slept in and spent some $$$ and time, getting parts and fixing the truck.)
Old starter on truck, new one on(too dark to get good pic) and old grungy starter off truck. If I can find a rebuilder in Houston, I'll have it fixed for a spare.

I've tried those smaller starters one time and couldn't get it to start right. I wonder if I got the wrong one. I've had good experience with the bigger starters. Although they are pretty heavy..

Hopefully I can get the old one rebuilt. After 27 years it deserves it....

You have that high compression premium gas eating 383 though....

Glad it's working now. Maybe keep it on hand for a core? Don't know if parts stores charge core fees for starters.

I used the dead starter from the parts shelf for the core, saved me $25.
