easy to check though, just jack it up and you can count how many times the wheel turns for every 1 or 2 driveshaft rotations, depending on if its an open or posi rear. You can look in the glove box and if the RPO codes are still there, you will know what it had from the factory.

Its also possivle that someone swapped the ring and pinions for a different ratio. Since its that much slower, maybe they went from 3.73s to 3.42s or something.

I couldn't read the sticker in the glove box. I decoded the VIN. It should be a 3.73 ratio. If I'm not mistaken, that's about as high-geared as they come. It's a mystery to me how it got this way.

Vin won't tell you the ratio. You either need the rpo code from the glove box, or go to CompNine.com to see

3.73 is a low gear ratio. 'Short'. Higher numerically.
A 3.42 would be a higher gear ratio. 'Tall'. Lower numerically
