Thinking of getting rid of my 83 k5 so I can pay some bills and would be more beneficial to keep the truck then have 2 suvs. Just swapped the sm465 in it but had a 700r4 and thought about taking it out and putting it into the 92 and putting a 700r4 back in the blazer out of my 92. What do yall think?

If you like the old 4 speed, stick with it. It's a solid, reliable gearbox. Not sure what kind of driving you do, but not having OD could be something to think about.

Mainly offroad not a lot of highway. When I do I usually drive 65mph. The wife tells me I drive like a grandpa lol. I'm in for more reliability and since the parts are avaliable. Planned on SAS but idk. Really would like a crew cab. Only thing don't think I'll be able to use the tcase out of the 92 because of spline count

I'm having the SM465/NP231 in my '90 swapped with an NV4500/NP231 from a '92 as I type. Same low 1st gear, just as strong, and has an OD 5th gear.

My NV4500 lined up with the SM465 mount and crossmember exactly.

Nv4500 I thought was a little longer. When I did the sm465 it was a direct swap with the 700r4, tcase drive lines and cross member all same spot as 700r4

Overall yes it is slightly longer, but well under an inch. Everything still fit together.
