I got a 97 silverado so its got both airbags, i already shut off the pass. side and now i want to see if i can pull a fuse or somethin to shut down the driver side bag. Iv never liked the idea of haveing hard plastic shootin u in the face at 100mph. O and that piece of plastic in the very front of the truck it runs under the radiator, is it a plug or sensor of somethin for the airbags, i can get a picture in a few hours of it if needed.

Yes that piece in the front is for the airbag. I would leave the airbag plugged in if I was you, it could save your life in an accident. Not saying that it won't hurt, but it could be the difference between life or death in a accident

Not sure what the laws are in your area, but in NY it is illegal to tamper with any safety equipment.

You don't get the plastic "in the face".

It splits as the airbag comes out:

The only intelligent reason for disabling and SRS is if there is someone too small or light for the system in it's way (IE: child, typically under 12). That's why they give you the option of turning off the passenger side airbag.

And if for some odd reason the plastic doesn't split due to the explosion of the airbag, it will only hurt for a short time

I know around here ive heard that if you mess with some safety componants on the truck its illegal as stated above... But also, I can see your insurance for the vehicle saying "we aren't insuring this truck" just because you have messed with the air bags... worth it? not really ...

why would you not want a working airbag? are you selling it for gas money?..........

usually not having a working airbag means the vehicle is "totaled" in the eyes of insurance companies.....

if you DO tamper with it... for the love of god, and your own body... disconnect the batter and touch the batter cables together!!!
what this does is clear all ECU and capacitor voltage in the vehicle. the truck has emergency capacitors to deploy the airbag if the battery is severed in a crash... if you do not do this and attempt to disconnect or move the airbag it can deploy and kill you....

I can just picture someone prying on it with a screw driver, only to have it deploy- now the screwdriver is lodged in your headrest... because it went through your skull...
