Airbag light

I’ve got a 1998 Silverado 1500 with the airbag light on. I searched this page and a lot of online forums but couldn’t find an answer to my specific issue, I’ve got a B1018 (passenger deployment loop short to ground) and a B1071 code (internal SDM fault). Just wondering if anyone has experienced this issue or know what the problem might be.

this and if you find your self needing truck for some thing until it is fixed disconnect the battery then pull the air bag fuse to make it safe to drive

I downloaded the 98 manuals last night but I couldn’t seem to find anything about the airbag system troubleshooting, do you happen to know which one to look in? Thanks again.

Code B1071 indicates the airbag control module, which is under the carpet under the driver seat, has failed and must be replaced because of the condition that caused the B1018 code. You'll need to find the short and fix it before replacing the module or it'll fail that module too. The code cannot be cleared by any scanner. In the meantime, the airbag system is completely disabled. There's no reason you can't drive the truck tho.
