...just rev above 1k after every adjustment so the sensor picks up correctly.
Shim the throttle, so you don't have to mess with it, while adjusting. I think I used my little Stihl flatblade screwdriver.

does this need done for 96? im seeing that 97 and up are non adjustable distributors. i tried the torque settings it didnt work, so i downloaded dashcommand and added the gm pid for an extra $9.95 and theres no option for any camshaft Retard timing. i drove the truck around the block the check engine light never came on. i aligned the distributor the same way it came out and was on cyl 1 TDC before removed so i installed it same way. not sure what to think about this.
