Thanks for sharing that.
Was that they Spyder Project kit that came with HIDs or did you buy the headlights and HID separately?
Sorry for all the questions! I did an retro projector install on my Redline and the difference is night and day. But that was easy because the projectors fit inside of the headlight housing without modification.
That was the ebay projectors identical to anzos and regular bulbs, no hids in them
Not saying there isn't validity to your statement (as I believe it can happen), but from googling around, there is no reason for a lens to melt, with or without HIDs, when talking about ISO standard headlights. The only time I have seen it happen is with super cheap headlights (cheaper than spyders), that are not DOT approved and don't follow ISO standards. 35w HIDs put off less radiant heat than 55w halogens (roughly equal). It would have to put off more heat than a halogen that is not behind a projector lens, than the HIDs heat that has to get past the projector lens first, then heat the housing lens enough for it to melt.
Based on that, I think it's possible the spyders you have in that pick are most likely the cheap knock-offs of an already cheap headlight. If you search around on ebay, the spyder specific projectors are $125+ just for headlights. Then there are ones that look identical to the spyders, that include the corner markers and signal lights that are less that $80.
I still plan on getting the spyders, and running 35w 5000K hids in them. I will post a review on them once I get them. I know it's not as good as a true retrofit, but it's a whole lot better than stock, and it's cheap.
Additionally, if you're right, and they melt - Well I'll make sure to let everyone know, and apologize to you for not listening to your warning.
Most of the time when I see melted housings it's from the bulb coming lose and touching the housing.

Yeah, I got that. It sounds like it was just a really cheap knockoff that used less than adequate polycarbonate or plastic for the housing lenses.Projector lense wasn't melted it was the outside lense that melted
