hey guys, I have a great old farm truck, 93 2wd 350TBI, motor isn’t worth much at all, blown head gasket, has anyone tried blue devil sealer and does it work? I don’t have the tools to fix the head gasket and don’t want to put the money or labor into a head gasket repair as the engine isn’t even worth that. Thanks in advanced! Once again this is not my daily just a beat around truck, so I am not trying to dump 1000 in it ! Out f experience, does blue devil work? If so how many miles did you get after the initial repair

If you don't care about the motor, why are you even asking? Do it. If it fails, part the truck out.

If you do care about the motor, fix it right.

Edit: Also, a head gasket is only $7 on Rock Auto. DIY. Charge yourself for four hours of labor at $50/hr, and you're still hundreds and hundreds of dollars under $1,000.

I used this stuff when my engine was overheating and losing some coolant. It seemed to help until I tore the engine apart and, sure enough, both head gaskets were blown.

You can see the white stains on the pistons. I've seen worse but they were blown just the same.

Normally I’d say fix it the right way, but if you want to try a little mechanic in a bottle, try “mendtite”.
It’s by zecol, oreillys part number 10400 all the demo derby guys around here swear by it. And at around $10 bucks it’s worth a shot. If it doesn’t work, you still have the $50 in your pocket you didn’t spend on that $60 blue devil junk to get the parts to do it right.
And i say junk, the last car I worked on that had used that stuff it slowed down the leaking head gasket (externally leaking) and plugged all the coolant jackets where the head/block/gasket come together. Took quite a while to chip it out.

I would have to get tools and I don’t have quite the knowledge to do that. I will probably just try the blue devil and then part out and pay someone to do a 5.3 swap if I put any money into it, won’t go back with the 350. Thanks for the advice !
