NV3500 38t Reverse Gear Seal

So there is a seal that's pressed into the back side of the reverse gear on the nv3500 output shaft. It's missing from every part diagram Ive seen... I bought a new reverse gear and it wasn't included, any idea why it's there? It's in the middle of the output shaft internal to the transmission.

It's also not in the parts diagram, it should be to the left of # 36.

I'm guessng it's supposed to keep oil pressure in the bearing... i can't find a replacement anywhere.
