New member here. Just bought a 88 c1500 silverado stepside. Will post pics soon. Doing some under dash electrical work and wondered what the square unit behind the glovebox is? Looks like some kind of amp, but can't find any info about it.

Welcome, you may be looking at your ECM is it laying to the right side and has 2 electrical connectors going to it?

It is on the right side of the dash, behind the glovebox. It has 2 plugs going to it with lots of wires. Does it have anything to do with the HVAC? I don't have a svc manual yet, so don't have an electrical schematic for the truck. Could it be a factory amplifier? doesn't have any labels on it except AKAJ and some numbers.

HVAC no, its most likely the ECM, but could be the stereo amp. Here is a pic of an ECM from a 89

Yeah, thats it. Thank you! I took some pics with my phone, but can't figure out how to send them to the forum. I'll find out how to do it. Thanks everyone for your help.
It's the ECM (1227747), the stereo brain box is above the accelerator pedal.

Here's your manuals

Thanks for those manuals!
