I picked up these wheels for $100. My problem is the clear coat is coming off. Is it powder coated clear? Do I strip them and polish? Or do I strip them and have them re powder coated? Any advice would be appreciated.

I think it's clearcoat lacquer, probably acrylic lacquer cause I think that is what GM uses. Try lacquer thinner and see if that takes it off. If it was me I would try toluene or acetone first, in an area where you have plenty of ventilation. Don't mix the chemicals with each other, and clean everything up thoroughly and carefully. Many polished aluminum wheels have this style of coating. My only experience with this is on the factory wheels on Dad's Denali, but they're actually plated and that's starting to flake. The truck spent its first several years in Connecticut, so, road salt.....

I’m gonna do aircraft stripper but has anyone ever used Rust-Oleum® High Performance Wheel Clear Coat? Or should I just polish the hell out of them?

If you have the time to polish them, cause it'll take a while. If you can get the old clearcoat off chemically that'd be better. If you have to sand it off, you run the risk of scratching the surface, since it's already somewhat polished. @kennythewelder has a post or 2 about polishing the factory aluminum wheels; he did the later N90 ones on his white truck and they came out beautifully. Eventually I want to do this on my Burb. Got a few other things to do on it first though.

Aircraft stripper is probably an expensive way around the horn--I've yet to see aircraft stripper do what acetone or lacquer thinner won't do. Go to Home Depot and buy a gallon of acetone is the best bet and cheapest bet.

I polished mine out with brown tripoli and then white jewelers rouge, then I used white diamond metal polish. My wife just did a touch up on them with some nufinish. Man they pop. I did strip everything with aircraft paint remover first, and paint the small sections black. We did tue same thing on my wifes Toyota 4 runner. I just took these pics.
