My alternator is going bad it needs to be replaced. The thing is all the auto stores I go to say they don't make a bigger then a 105 for my truck(95 1500 silvy w/5.7). I want to run atleast a 130 amp as I'm going to run Duals for winch and lights. Was looking at wrangler but I think 400-$500+ is quite a bit. Am I wrong? Is there other GOOD alt. not so expensive?

I have a 95 also and I am having my alt rebuilt at a local shop. They are doing it up to 200 amp and it will be $180. They also told me it will end up being 1 wire after it's done.

With some mods you can go to a 2003 alternator for a 5.3. They are rated at 145 amps. There is a thread on here somewhere detailing the swap. 96-99 is a direct bolt on. Your 95 will require a retro-fit.

Btw... if you get one used, be sure the truck it comes from has electric fans. They are the ones equipped with the 145 amp alternator. On the 96-99 trucks, the belt must also be replaced. Cant recall the correct part number off the top of my head. Hopefully someone with a TBI truck can chime in and confirm the correct belt for your application.
