im looking at buying a 98 4x4 rcsb 5 speed 5.7. The guy says its really rare and i didnt even think they mated a transmission rated to 300 ft lbs torque to a engine that puts out 330. . . . any ideas?

how do you figure its rated that low? 98 would have the lighter duty nv4500 which is rated at 410 ftlb input and no its not all that rare

i bought it and checked today. Its an all aluminum trans so nv3500 correct?

That sounds correct but off. The only way to really know is to check the VIN or glove box codes. Even then, that only tells what it came with factory. Who knows what may have been put in it over the years. You'll have to find some kind of identification on the transmission.

I had an old manager that had a 96 K2500 Regular cab short bed NV4500 with the granny 1st gear with the L31 350. That thing was damn near unstoppable and bad ass. I used to drive it to pick up parts and drop off tires and such (High School Days)

Yea. Just hope i wont blow mine out. Guess the days of shiftin it on the floor are gone. . . at least till i get something i can rip gears in! Killed 3rd in a few t5's, Ill be easy on my truck tho. . . . maybe

So any way of finding out how many k1500 5 speed 350 vortecs were made. I have looked at every OBS i come across and have only found 1! Exactly identical to mine none the less. Just wondering for curiosities sake.

well i have one too, though mine is a 96 model, but had a buddy that had a 97 RCSB with one as well, but they are far and few between

i just wish i could find a CCSB with a 454 and 5 speed, that's what i wish i had
