I run 5.13's on 38's...well did until I downsized the tire but if I remember right, I was right around 2200

You gotta think about your torque curve and what you're asking your engine to do. Correct gears for 38s would be 4.88-5.38. The sweet spot is 5.13 imo, because 4.88 gears may put your rpms close to stock, but it doesn't account for the added rolling resistance and weight of the tire. Running a little bit higher RPM can in some cases save you gas simply because your engine is putting out more power and can turn the big meats more efficiently than it could trying to keep RPMs low.
