I was perusing the GMT400s for sale in Brazil and I stumbled across this... thing.

It looks like either...

- a Tahoe with the back chopped-off behind the seats and a bed grafted on, or

- a standard-cab shortbed with an aftermarket cab extension

GM Brazil AFAIK only offered the GMT400 in standard-cab shortbed and, for only a few years, the utility Tahoe.

I'm not sure what to make of this, maybe someone can render an opinion of how this thing was given life.

Here's the for-sale listing. Quite a few pictures are provided. It's a 2wd 4.2L turbo-Diesel w/ 5-spd manual. There are only two entry doors. The seats look custom.

Here are a few pictures from the listing:

Here are a bunch of Silverados for sale in Brazil, many of them GMT400s:

Here's one story about the GMT400 pickup and utility models in South America, in Portuguese (use your favorite translator). The pictures are interesting...

It's conceivable they have conversion companies like we do here (or did here, not sure there are too many left). To me the lines of the extension don't really match the 400 styling that well, so I'm of the opinion it's not from GM. I'm really digging the inline 6. EDIT: I see it's a turbo diesel, now.

GM and Ford have had some really cool vehicles down there that we didn't get here.

Some conversion company, unusual design changes, shorten front half of bed. Then extension for full size seating. There was a company in Stockton, Calif. That was taking 85 and up Toyota 4x4 pickups and added a section turning them into crew cab pickups. Like the overseas versions. Used to see them around.

$15,429.97 is not a bad price for a custom, rust free one of a kind unit.

“Buy it now”, then drive it back to the US via the Pan American Highway
:badidea:

Seriously though, it would be neat to have a South American GMT400 in the States but emissions laws would likely become a sticking point.

At 25 years old it would most likely pass under the import laws that are in place?
