I was verifying the id stamping on the back of my 1996 305,
only to verify it is post 1987, and it is 5.0..
was curious if there are different subtle changes over the years of 88-98.

I cannot fit my fat head in there, let alone a camera, but found the three triangles you would normally find on a vortec head, but on the block. A little tiny gm logo goes with it.
All else looks like above stamping except the letter I has no top and bottom hashes, and it is a bit smaller.

anyone have something similar?
I only guessed it was showing to be genuine metric 96-03 vortec casting.
at 359k miles and perfect, it has been re-done by pros.. or complete swap for new.
just satisfying curiosity.

if this helps,
it was built in canada, shipped with a bulletproof nv3500 that whines like a straight cut. Nice and cold. (needed nothing ever- original 359k miles.. with genuine hurst billet). It does have the mix and match of the spline counts, as GM built it.(3/4 and half ton for the v8 + manual)

That is all I deciphered.

This engine even looks new upon a quick garden hose.
